In our October episode of Spirit of Innovation: Arts Across America, our Impact Story takes a look at how the Western Riverside Council of Governments uses data to help local governments make informed decisions about the future of their region. Plus, in our Spotlight, things get ghoulish as we visit Vail Ranch Headquarters and give viewers a glimpse of what they might experience during a spooky ghost tour. With election season right around the corner, our Need-to-Know dives into the important ballot and candidate information. In addition, our Community Roundtable features two city council candidates who join our hosts for an important conversation. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, our Food Corner highlights the Community Food Pantry of Murrieta to showcase the hope that they’re bringing to the community. Impact Story – WRCOG

The Western Riverside Council of Governments
is an organization that studies data trends to provide local governments with information to make decisions about the future of Riverside County. In addition to data analysis, WRCOG also works with several Riverside County cities to provide free support to businesses and food recovery organizations through their Regional Food Rescue Program Regional Food Rescue Program.

 

Spotlight – Ghost Tours

The Vail Ranch Ghost Tours put on by Old Temecula Walking Tours have become a staple attraction, especially during spooky season. Join our SOI team as we learn more about how they came to be and what visitors can expect to experience on a tour.

 

Need-To-Know – Props/ Politics

Voters everywhere will have to make many important decisions in this national election and every state, city, and county will have different issues on their ballots. In this segment, we mention the nonpartisan Riverside County Superior Court Judge’s race. This is what to look for when it comes to evaluating candidates for this position. The two candidates running for the open judge seat are Prosecutor Gerald Pfohl and Commissioner Elizabeth Tucker .

On the local front, there are four candidates running for the Temecula Unified School Board who are endorsed by the Temecula Valley Educators Association . They are David Sola , Gary Oddi , Allison Webster Barclay , and Steven Schwartz .

Residents in Murrieta, CA also have important choices to make with three open school board trustee positions. The Murrieta Education Association endorses candidates Yvonne Munoz , Deon Mario Hairston , and Linda Lunn .

In Lake Elsinore, CA, the school board incumbent Jennette Vanderpoole is defending her position. Voters in Lake Elsinore will also need to decide between City Council District 2 incumbent and former mayor, Steve Manos and challenger Marvin Andrade , a small business owner.

The statewide ballot measures this November cover a variety of issues.

Community Roundtable

Temecula City Council candidate and former Navy Command Master Chief, Eric Faulkner , and current mayor of Wildomar Bridgette Moore , who is also running for City Council in District 4, sit down with Scott and Diane Strand to discuss what they hope to bring to their cities if elected.

Good-To-Know

There are many ways to celebrate veterans. The 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade in Murrieta is just one event happening on November 11th that will honor those who have served our country.

Another event happening on November 11th is the City of Temecula’s Annual Patriotic Salute to Veterans Program and Concert . This free event will feature a presentation of military banners and a performance by the Temecula Valley Symphony.

The 11th Annual Turkey Trot 5K and Food Drive is coming up! Join in on the fun on Thanksgiving morning at Harveston Community Park, where you can enjoy the family-friendly costume contest and more.

The holiday season is right around the corner and the 2024 Festival of Lights Switch-On Ceremony is set to brighten up Riverside on November 23rd. Get into the holiday spirit and enjoy a fireworks display, fun decorations, food vendors, and other activities.
